Bluefin Tuna season Starts June 1st

The 2015 Bluefin Tuna season will start on the first of June. Some years we have had the Tuna show up in late May, and some years they are here the first week of June. Last year, they were around for opening day and we are hoping for the same this year. We are now taking bookings for the 2015 season. We are also offering a three trip Tuna package in which you can fish the Spring, Summer, and Fall and save money. Gives you the best chance to catch the fish of a lifetime.

Medium Size Tuna are still around.

The Bluefin Tuna have showed up in great numbers. For the last couple years we have not seen the smaller fish which are great for charters. The last two weeks or so have been really good for the high 60 to low 70 inch fish. We have been hooking multiple fish per trip mostly on stand-up gear. Leaving from Duxbury Harbor, its a short ride out to the fishing grounds this time of year on the High Hook.

The Tuna have arrived!

The bluefin Tuna season opened on June 1st and the Tuna arrived right on time. There has been good fishing from Stellwagon Bank, all the way down to Chatham. On Wednesday High Hook landed its first Tuna of the season measuring in at 90 inches (350 plus lbs). We were back at it on Thursday and managed to land two tuna. In the morning we caught a shorter one, and in the afternoon we landed another 90 inch fish. We are back at it on Sunday after this wind dies down. Below are some pictures from this week.

Good News for People Who Like to Eat Tuna

I have some good news for the clients who like to keep and eat Bluefin Tuna. For the last couple of years we have had to release any Tuna measuring over 59in or under 73in back into the water to swim another day. This was done to protect the 2005 football size Tuna class. Those Tuna are now around 73in so there is no need to have the slot on them.
I was at a seminar for the Stellwagen Bank Charter Boat Ass on Tuesday night. They brought Emily in from Tag a Tiny program to speak about the last ten years or so of Tuna tagging research. She had mentioned that the slot that has been in effect since 2009 will most likely be lifted this year, although it has not been done yet. Good and bad news. The good news is that you guys would be able to keep the Tuna…. The bad news… is that you guys will be able to keep the Tuna,, and I have to cut it up.

Jack Murphy catches a 79inch Bluefin on 6/17/11

Jack Murphy landed this 79 inch, just under 300 pound Bluefin Tuna on our trip last Thursday. We had hooked the fish on a pogie about 10 feet from the boat on a free swimmer. The bite was down near the golf ball behind P-Town. The fish took around 40 minutes to pull up.

It’s time for Cod and Haddock fishing

The new boat should be ready this week and it will be going in the water ASAP. We will running several trips out to Stellwagen Bank for Cod and Haddock at the end of April through late May. You can book your Cod/Haddock trip on the website or by calling 781-291-1304. The Bluefin tuna are still pushing there way up here and are still expected to be here in the last week of May.
